By Brian Fung | CNNWashington — A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked a sweeping import ban on Apple’s latest smartwatches while the patent dispute winds its way through the legal system.Apple filed its emergency appeal motion Tuesday on a US International Trade Commission ruling that went into effect this week. That ITC order prevented Apple from importing the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, among other newer models, to the United States because they violate patents registered to another company.The Biden White House had until the end of Christmas day to overturn the ban but the office of US Trade Representative Katherine Tai confirmed in a statement Tuesday that the White House would not intervene.The appeals court’s temporary block on the ITC’s order will allow the U.S. Customs department to consider Apple’s redesign of the offending Apple Watch models, a fix that is expected to take place by January 12. (NEXSTAR) – Comedian, musician and television personality Tom Smothers, who starred in “The Smothers Brothers Show” and “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” alongside his brother Dick Smothers, died on Tuesday at the age of 86.Dick Smothers, 85, announced his brother’s passing in a news release issued by the National Comedy Center in New York, which houses some of the brothers’ memorabilia.“Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner,” Dick Smothers wrote, in part. “I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years.” Wind Advisory in effect as rain approaches Bay Area Tom Smothers passed at home in Sonoma County, California, with family at his side, Dick said. Blaze at San Leandro Marina engulfs abandoned building

(KRON) -- The Alameda County Fire Department is at the scene of a “well-involved” structure fire at the San Leandro Marina, according to fire officials Wednesday morning. The structure is a former Harbor Masters office, which has been abandoned for some time, ACFD said.The one-alarm fire is located at the 40 block of Mulford Point Drive. Firefighters responded to the scene at 8:27 a.m. and went into defensive operations around 8:47 a.m., according to Alameda County Fire. Oakland International Airport, located nearby, has been advised of the ongoing fire. Wind Advisory in effect as rain approaches Bay Area No injuries have been reported at this time. The building is expected to be a total loss, officials said.The cause of the fire is under investigation.The United States Coast Guard has concerns over water runoff impacting wildlife, according to ACFD, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been called to respond to the scene.This is a developing story. San Francisco power outage Wednesday leaves thousands in the dark

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A power outage in San Francisco Wednesday morning is impacting thousands, according to PG&E. The outage, which appears to be centered in the city's Castro District, is impacting 4,142 customers as of about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Notre Dame announces Mike Denbrock as new offensive coordinator

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Mike Denbrock is back for a third coaching stint at Notre Dame, this time as offensive coordinator.The school announced Denbrock’s hiring on Wednesday.
