Researchers find link between sewage from Mexico and bacteria in the air in California IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (Border Report) -- Researchers from the University of California San Diego last week released findings from a study showing how some bacteria in the air comes from raw sewage flowing into California from Mexico. They uncovered that the bacteria becomes airborne when sewage hits the ocean as it gets churned by the surf."The big takeaway from that study is that contaminants from the sewage are getting into the air," said Greg Sandstron, a UCSD researcher. Recent storms sent 7 billion gallons of raw sewage from Mexico into U.S., mayor says Sandstron and others are now collecting air samples daily as they try to determine whether viruses, not just bacteria from the sewage, are also getting into the air people breathe.Greg Sandstron is a researcher with the University of California San Diego. (Salvador Rivera/Border Report)This is a big concern because millions of gallons of raw sewage flow into the Tijuana River Valley between Tijuana and San Diego, forcing beach...

California woman misses $2.04B Powerball jackpot by one number, still lands $1.15M prize Last month, Edwin Castro came forward to claim the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot he won off a ticket sold in Altadena in November. He was the sole winner of the largest lottery jackpot in history but, had just one number on a ticket sold 28 miles south been different, California could've had two jackpot winners. Castro's ticket matched all six winning numbers - 10, 33, 41, 47, 56 and red Powerball 10 - for the November 7 drawing. A ticket sold at Stues Dairy in Gardena missed splitting the jackpot with Castro by one number, the California Lottery announced Wednesday.Though not as large as Castro's prize - he opted for the cash payout, which was less than half the jackpot size - the ticket claimed by Ana Contreras was worth $1,149,661. U.S. Special Forces Want to Use Deepfakes for Psy-Ops U.S. Special Operations Command, responsible for some of the country’s most secretive military endeavors, is gearing up to conduct internet propaganda and deception campaigns online using deepfake videos, according to federal contracting documents reviewed by The Intercept. The plans, which also describe hacking internet-connected devices to eavesdrop in order to assess foreign populations’ susceptibility to propaganda, come at a time of intense global debate over technologically sophisticated “disinformation” campaigns, their effectiveness, and the ethics of their use. While the U.S. government routinely warns against the risk of deepfakes and is openly working to build tools to counter them, the document from Special Operations Command, or SOCOM, represents a nearly unprecedented instance of the American government — or any government — openly signaling its desire to use the highly controversial technology offensively.SOCOM’s next generation propaganda aspirations are outlined in a ...
