BOSTON (AP) — The biggest Pride parade in New England returned to Boston on Saturday after a three-year hiatus, with a fresh focus on social justice and inclusion rather than corporate backing.Marchers cheered, danced and held signs representing various causes during the two-hour event, while people along the sidelines cheered back. About 10,000 marchers signed up before registration was shut down, according to organizers. Mason Dunn, 37, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, said the crowd was diverse: “All different gender identities, all different race, ethnicity, age, ability. We’re seeing a really great representation.”Some participants memorialized transgender people who died because of bias or hate in the U.S. by carrying signs with one of their names in the parade, Dunn said.Massachusetts Gov. North Dakota tribe buys idle oil pipeline from Enbridge

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — A Native American tribe in North Dakota bought an idle pipeline from the energy company Enbridge to help deliver oil from wells on its reservation to the broader market.The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation announced the deal Friday but didn’t disclose how much it paid. The tribe said it expects the pipeline, which will connect its oil facilities on its Fort Berthold Reservation to Enbridge’s large pipeline network, will be up and running within a year. “This is a major step in enhancing our ability to get our trust assets of oil and gas out to market,” tribal chair Mark Fox said to the Bismarck Tribune.There are more than 2,600 active oil and gas wells on the reservation that produced an average of 144,190 barrels of oil per day in February, according to the most recent figures from the state Department of Mineral Resources. Suspect descriptions, car photo released in ‘barbaric’ attack outside east end mosque

Toronto police have released surveillance photos and suspect descriptions of two men wanted in a violent attack outside a mosque in the city’s east end last month.Investigators say the assault occurred around 7:50 p.m. on May 10 at Baitul Aman Masjid near Victoria Park and Danforth Avenues. Surveillance footage from the mosque’s security camera shows a man walk into the parking lot carrying bags. He is quickly approached by two suspects, one of whom is holding what appeared to be a baseball bat.The suspects start to to attack the man, swinging the bat at him and then stomping him repeatedly once he falls to the ground. A grey sedan pulls up during the ongoing attack and the two suspects get inside the vehicle as it drives off. Police say the man was treated for non-life threatening injuries. TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israelis continued protests Saturday for the 23rd week against plans by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government to overhaul the judiciary in the country.The mass demonstrations started in January shortly after the government, made up of ultranationalist and ultra-Orthodox religious parties, was sworn in.Gaining momentum and seeing large turnouts of more than 200,00 demonstrators at times, protest organizers have said they will not give up until the government cancels the proposed legal changes rather than delaying them.The protests have become a weekly occasion to express on current affairs in the country.In the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv, where the main protest with tens of thousands is held, protesters held a giant banner reading “Type of citizen: dead,” a reference to surging crimes among Israel’s Arab communities.Other protesters marched behind an effigy of a chained-up Netanyahu amid a sea of Israel’s blue-and-white flags.The plan wo...

4 people shot during funeral procession in Oak Park

OAK PARK, Ill. -- Four people were shot during a funeral procession Saturday in Oak Park, according to police.The shooting happened in the 900 block of Madison Street. Lansing police arrest man for kidnapping after allegedly stealing car left on with 2 kids inside Police said the four people were shot in what is believed to be a targeted shooting amongst members of the procession. No bystanders were injured.The conditions and identities of the people involved haven't been released.Madison Street is closed in the area due to the investigation.Additional details haven't been released at this time.

Texas Parks and Wildlife to use eminent domain for Fairfield Lake State Park site

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is petitioning to condemn Fairfield Lake State Park and Fairfield Lake to keep the state park open to the public. TPWD will use eminent domain to condemn the about 5,000-acre property. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission voted to authorize TPWD to condemn the land at a Saturday special meeting. From state park to private development: The twisting timeline of Fairfield Lake "Today’s action comes after TPWD and its commissioners have taken persistent and extraordinary steps to acquire and preserve the park under more amicable terms," a TPWD release said. The state park closed to the public June 3, and TPWD's lease for the state park ends June 13. The state park, located between Houston and Dallas in Freestone County, opened in 1976 with about 1,821 acres. A coal plant, operated by Vistra, closed in 2018. Illinois-based Dot Foods moving trade show from St. Louis over crime concerns

ST. LOUIS - Dot Foods, an Illinois-based food industry redistributor, plans to move an annual trade show from St. Louis to Denver starting next year due to crime concerns. The St. Louis Business Journal first reported on this decision Friday. Dot Foods has held its annual show for nearly 20 years at the America's Center Convention Complex. However, CEO Dick Tracy told the Business Journal some customers and employees share concerns about safety around downtown.
