Harris promotes huge community solar deal in Georgia visit

WASHINGTON (AP) — Continuing its efforts to promote renewable energy, the Biden administration on Thursday announced what it says will be the largest community solar effort in U.S. history, enough to power 140,000 homes and businesses in three states.Vice President Kamala Harris announced the deal during a visit to the Qcells solar panel factory outside Atlanta. The South Korean company’s corporate parent, Hanwha Solutions Corp., said in January it will invest $2.5 billion to expand its Dalton, Georgia plant and build another plant in nearby Cartersville. Qcells projects it will supply about 30% of total U.S. solar panel demand by 2027, including making solar panel components usually manufactured outside the United States.A deal announced by Harris calls for Qcells and Virginia-based Summit Ridge Energy to deploy community solar projects capable of generating 1.2 gigawatts of electricity in Illinois, Maine and Maryland. The U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey records the percentage of every metro area's residents with bachelor's degrees and what each of them studied. Colorado cities have some of the country's highest levels of college-educated adults who studied STEM, STEM-related fields or business. Retirees are fleeing Colorado, but one city still attracts them On the other hand, Colorado cities also have some of the lowest levels in the country of degree holders who specifically studied education. An Easter egg hunt with a twist was designed to make the day fun for some South Florida students. The event was held at the Miami Lighthouse Academy where each colorful egg made a beeping noise, which allowed blind and visually impaired children to search the eggs by sound. “These kids have a chance now to participate in something that we take for granted, an Easter egg hunt,” said Steadman Stahl, president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association. “Something like that, and there are young kids that do it, and they also vibrate, so the kids that have trouble hearing and seeing could also participate.”The Miami-Dade Police Department Bomb Squad helped assemble the eggs.
