STEAMY, STORMY AND SAHARAN DUST

Published Fri, 29 Mar 2024 01:59:11 GMT

STEAMY, STORMY AND SAHARAN DUST Happy Friday, South Florida!Hopefully everyone has had a great holiday week!  Friday is finally here and conditions across South Florida remained the same through the entire week. Warm and muggy conditions in the morning have given way to steamy conditions each afternoon, as our feels-like temperatures have soared well into the triple digits. On Thursday, a few areas saw showers and thunderstorms, however, many areas also simply remained steamy through a big chunk of the day. This morning there were showers and thunderstorms over the Florida Bay lifting northward away from the Florida Keys but the storms fizzled before affecting any land areas.Unlike yesterday’s steering pattern out of the South, the weather pattern for South Florida will begin to change starting today. The wind direction across South Florida will veer out of the Southwest, which means showers and thunderstorms will favor the East Coast metro during the afternoon. With a warm Southwest wind flow in place, very...

Florida scientist utilizes high-tech solution to combat dangerous mosquitoes nationwide TAMPA, Fla. (WSVN) — In the battle against mosquitoes, University of South Florida biologist, Ryan Carney, has employed cutting-edge technology to track and monitor these disease-carrying pests. Experts said malaria stands as one of the most significant health threats worldwide which emphasizes the urgent need to address the mosquito problem. “For malaria in particular, that’s only spread by anopheles mosquitoes as far as human malaria is considered,” said Carney.Recognizing the significant health risks posed by mosquitoes, Carney and his team have developed an innovative online tool called MosquitoDashboard.org. “So it’s basically an online interactive dashboard that maps the mosquito data and photos that citizen scientists take using one of our three partner apps,” said Carney. With mosquito-borne diseases resurfacing in Florida, this advanced tracking system aims to empower citizens and enhance public health efforts. Heat On Repeat

Published Fri, 29 Mar 2024 01:59:11 GMT

Heat On Repeat Back to back 90 degrees for some inland communities are in the books. Today, we’ll add day 3 for some. Places like Norwood, Bedford, Fitchburg, and Nashua, NH will have their chance of clinching the heat wave today as highs soar to 90 or just above it inland. At the beaches, it’ll be another fun one in the sun as temps hover around 80 with a breeze bending in from the ocean. We look dry from start to finish as showers and storms stay northwest of Worcester County, keeping it quiet across Central and Eastern Mass. Tomorrow, we’ll knock off a couple degrees, but it’s an overall solid start to the weekend. While a few pop-up showers and storms are possible, most of the favor inland locations (mainly near and northwest of 495), and even there, much of the day is dry. Highs run 75-80 at the beach to 85-90 inland. Sunday has more clouds and a passing isolated showers/storm, but most of the rain holds off, to our west during the day. That wet weather does move in Su...
