And somehow all I want to eat is vegetables, perhaps as a kind of tonic.If your climate allows, this light, sunny menu is really more of a daylight meal, relaxed and best eaten outdoors (though, this year, it’s anyone’s guess what surprising things the weather might do).Salad, made with ingredients of the season, is a necessity for me all year round. What I want right now is a salad of just-picked tender greens with colorful radishes, sweet raw young turnips, roasted beets, asparagus tips, shavings of fennel and fresh herbs. Fresh, fresher, freshissimo.Some salads are tossed, while others, like this one, are composed. Hundreds of Angelenos will soon have to find a new place to live after a Sawtelle complex announced the eviction of all residents due to a costly renovation project.Barrington Plaza, located at 11740 Wilshire Blvd., suffered dramatic and destructive fires in 2013 and 2020, partly because it does not have fire sprinklers. One person died and 13 people were hurt in the second blaze.Because it was built in the early 1960s, it is exempt from laws requiring fire sprinklers, though as part of approving repairs after the 2020 fire, city officials demanded safety upgrades, according to the Los Angeles Times. 32-Year-Old Oakland Pedestrian Hurt after Pursuit Ends in Crash near East 11th StreetOAKLAND, CA (May 9, 2023) – Thursday evening, Anton Jackson Jr. was involved in a pedestrian crash on 23rd Avenue that left one injured.The incident happened on May 4th, shortly after 5:30 p.m., near 23rd Avenue, East 11th Street, and Interstate 880.Initially, a Homeland Security Officer was pursuing an Acura TL that failed to stop a red light. The Acura, driven by 22-year-old Anton Jackson Jr. of Oakland, then hit a Nissan Altima and a 32-year-old Oakland resident, who was walking in the area.Following the collision, Jackson Jr. immediately fled the scene but was soon captured.Responding emergency personnel arrived at the site of the collision shortly after.
