AUSTIN (KXAN) – If you happened to be on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake Tuesday afternoon, no, you were not hallucinating – that was, indeed, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson walking down the trail with a goat.Why? Watson was there to promote The Trail Conservancy’s "Goats on the Trail" pilot program. The conservancy started deploying goats in July to sustainably maintain the beloved trail that circles Lady Bird Lake. Travis County sends letter in opposition of Hays County's SH 45 gap study

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Travis County commissioners unanimously approved Tuesday submitting a letter to Hays County outlining county leaders' opposition to a proposed State Highway 45 connection project.Currently, Hays County is running a SH 45 gap study open house, with county officials accepting public comments on the study through Friday. The $2.5 million gap study is designed "to explore the feasibility of constructing SH 45 between I-35 and RM 1626," the study website read.Earlier this month, Hays County officials told KXAN the study is expected to take one to two years to complete.The proposed project eyes a possible expansion of SH 45 between Interstate 35 and RM 1626. Forest Rangers conduct wilderness rescue in Ulster County

SHANDAKEN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Forest Rangers conducted a rescue in the Slide Mountain Wilderness on December 12. Rangers Horn and Sweeney located the hiker at around 7:30 p.m. The hiker, who was in the midst of a two-night backpacking trip, reportedly showed symptoms of mild hypothermia.The hiker was trying to meet his family at the Slide Mountain trailhead but was unable to reach his destination. Rangers cited steep and rugged terrain, snow accumulation, rapidly dropping temperatures, and exhaustion as impeding factors.The hiker was provided hot liquids, food, hand and foot warmers, and assisted to the Slide Mountain trailhead. Resources were clear at 2:30 a.m.Forest Rangers were assisted by New York State Police and the Big Indian and Claryville fire departments.

Cohoes driver dies after car flip near Syracuse

DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR) -- On December 18 at around 4:39 a.m., a car flipped onto its roof and into several feet of water in a ditch off of I-690 eastbound. The driver, identified as 44-year-old ​Udayabhanu Anjanappilly of Cohoes, crashed between the Midler and Thompson Road exits. The crash reduced the highway down to one lane for several hours.Anjanappilly was taken to Upstate Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, according to Syracuse Police. "The investigation revealed that the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch," said Lt. Matt Malinowski. The investigation is ongoing.

Romance scam: Man who helped bilk St. Louis woman out of $1.2M is sentenced

LOUIS (AP) — A Texas man who was part of a romance scam that bilked a Missouri woman out of $1.2 million was sentenced on Tuesday to three years in federal prison and ordered to repay part of the money.Rotimi Oladimeji, 38, of Richardson, Texas, was sentenced one year after he pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud, two counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney's Office in St. Louis said in a news release. FLORISSANT, Mo. - A St. Louis man is facing charges for allegedly shooting his girlfriend during a physical altercation.The shooting took place on Dec. 17, according to the Florissant Police Department.Police claim Quan Rhodes, 31, got into an argument with his girlfriend, which turned physical. Rhodes went to his girlfriend's car and retrieved a pistol. The two struggled over the gun. The woman let go of the gun and a shot was fired.A bullet grazed the woman's leg above her knee.
