NEW YORK (AP) — The trail had gone cold as clues suddenly dwindled. For a time, doubts swirled about whether a killer who dumped the remains of his female victims along remote stretches of coastline on New York’s Long Island would ever be caught.Then finally, after more than a dozen long years, bereaved families of the victims were provided with a whiff of relief Friday when authorities announced the arrest of a 59-year-old architect who they believe is responsible for the deaths. Two people critically injured in gondola crash at Quebec resort Mont-Tremblant

Quebec provincial police say two people are in critical condition after a sightseeing gondola crashed at the popular Mont-Tremblant resort. Police say the crash occurred shortly before noon after a piece of construction equipment struck the gondola. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Ève Brochu-Joubert says the two people were riding in the gondola at the time of the crash. She says investigators are being dispatched to the scene. The mountain resort is located around 105 kilometres northwest of Montreal. Mont-Tremblant declined to comment on the incident, saying the situation was evolving. 

17-year-old boy arrested after allegedly carjacking 62-year-old woman in Chicago

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy was arrested Saturday afternoon in Chicago after police said he allegedly carjacked a woman at gunpoint.According to information from the Chicago Police Department, the boy was arrested moments after he carjacked a 62-year-old woman in the 1500 block of West 47th Street. 5 people shot, 1 fatally, in Garfield Park drive-by: CPD Chicago police officers arrested him around 1:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Indiana Avenue.He was charged with one count of vehicular hijacking with a firearm, according to police

First responders extract patient after single-vehicle collision

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire conducted a vehicle rescue in northeast Austin Sunday afternoon.ATCEMS said there was a single-vehicle collision in the 1600 block of Dungan Lane with one patient involved who was pinned in their vehicle.According to officials, the person was extricated from the vehicle, and medics were prepping them to be taken to the hospital.This is a developing story. Minnesota’s first cat café is moving from Uptown to Roseville.The Cafe Meow, a business that fosters cats while providing cat-focused activities along with food and drink for the public, opened five years ago at 2323 Hennepin Ave. and said the support it has received has been “amazing,” according to a Facebook post.The café has outgrown its space and needs “a more spacious layout that caters to the amenities we have discovered along the way, which will better support us and our customers.”The Cafe Meow also has a New Hope location.Visitors have access to a coffee shop and a cat lounge, which charges a cover fee. They can buy merchandise and locally made treats along with coffee and tea. Saugerties man arrested on menacing charge

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man in Saugerties was arrested following a menacing incident, according to police. Marlon Galdamez-Navarrette, 41, is facing multiple charges. On July 15 at 12:28 a.m., police responded to 79 Livingston Street in Saugerties for a report of an intoxicated man making threats of violence with a knife, allegedly telling the victim he was going to kill them. While being processed at Saugerties Police HQ, police say Galdamez-Navarrette refused to be finger printed and reportedly urinated on the booking room floor. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The champion thoroughbred racehorse Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, has passed away. He was 23 years old. The park announced that he passed away on July 16 from complications with colic. City of Los Angeles announces cooling center locations amid record-breaking heatwave

The City of Los Angeles has opened dedicated cooling centers at many locations throughout the city as temperatures remain at or near triple digits. According to the city’s Emergency Management Department, the following locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.: Fred Roberts Recreation Center, located at 4700 South Honduras Street in Central Alameda Highland Park Recreation Center, located at 6150 Piedmont Avenue in Highland Park Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center, located at 7326 Jordan Avenue in Canoga Park Mid-Valley Senior Citizen Center, located at 8825 Kester Avenue in North Hills According to the Emergency Management Department website, the Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center location will be closed on Monday due to planned repairs.In addition, department officials announced on Twitter that several L.A.
