Trump appealing narrow gag order imposed on him in federal election interference case

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers told a court Tuesday that they are appealing a narrow gag order imposed on him in his federal 2020 election interference case. Trump’s lawyers said in court papers that they will challenge an order from U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan that bars Trump from making statements targeting prosecutors, potential witnesses and court staff. Special counsel Jack Smith’s team sought the order against the Republican 2024 presidential front-runner over a litany of verbal attacks from him on likely witnesses and others. Prosecutors say the attacks were designed to undermine the public’s confidence in the judicial process and taint the jury pool. Trump vowed Monday to appeal the ruling, calling it unconstitutional. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republicans who control the Wisconsin Senate voted Tuesday to fire eight state board appointees from Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ administration, including a majority of the panel that sets the state’s environmental and wildlife policies.In a series of votes that fell mostly along party lines, the Senate rejected confirmation for four members of the Natural Resources Board, as well as a Democratic elections commissioner who tried earlier this year to prevent the Senate from voting to fire the state’s top elections official, a nonpartisan role. CHICAGO — A community alert was issued Tuesday for a suspected arsonist targeting some Halloween and fall decorations on the North Side.Chicago police are looking for a suspect described as a white man, 35 to 40 years old, 6' feet tall, balding with a beard and mustache. (The Hill) – The Pennsylvania woman who used a bullhorn to direct rioters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was sentenced Tuesday to more than four years in prison.U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth convicted Rachel Marie Powell on all nine counts in July. She was convicted of obstruction of an official proceeding, destruction of government property, entering a restricted area with a weapon and engaging in violence on Capitol grounds.Powell waived her right to a jury trial. LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – NFL legend Terrell Owens was hit by a car in Southern California on Monday night in what law enforcement is investigating as a deliberate act, authorities confirmed to KTLA.Owens was playing pickup basketball in Calabasas, which lies roughly 30 miles west of downtown Los Angeles, when he apparently got into an argument with another man on the court, TMZ first reported.After the game, the other man got into his car and drove into the former wide receiver's knee, according to TMZ.
