ST. LOUIS - One season after many baseball teams honored Albert Pujols in his farewell tour, the St. Louis Cardinals will return the favor to one soon-to-retire MLB star. Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers are coming to Busch Stadium this weekend for a three-game road series against the Cardinals. Cabrera is the only active player with at least 3,000 career hits and 500 home runs, two benchmarks that attained alone usually deem players Hall-Of-Fame worthy. The largest and busiest hospital in Los Angeles County is getting a new name and identity. Earlier this week, Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center officially unveiled its new name and brand: Los Angeles General Medical Center.The hospital had an official unveiling Wednesday with special guest speakers, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and County Supervisor Hilda Solis, as well as hospital administrators and County Public Health officials.The new name and brand reflects the hospital's "active and intentional commitment to strengthen the trust between the medical center and the community of Los Angeles," officials said.The historic medical center is located east of downtown L.A. in Boyle Heights and has existed in the community in various forms since 1878.It's the largest hospital in Los Angeles County and the largest public hospital west of Texas, serving nearly 1 million patients every year. The American Lung Association has released its annual ‘State of the Air’ report, and the news isn’t good for California.Golden State cities swept the top spot in all three pollution categories: ozone, year-round particulate matter (PM), and short-term particulate matter - all of which come largely from man-made sources like vehicles, factories and refineries.Natural sources include forest fires and volcanoes.The Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area ranked #1 again with the most high ozone days of the 227 metropolitan areas that were ranked. Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Fatal Collision near Adams AvenueSAN DIEGO, CA (May 5, 2023) – Thursday night, one man was fatally struck in a pedestrian collision on State Route 15.Authorities responded to the scene around 9:00 p.m., on the northbound lanes just south of Adams Avenue.According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado struck a male pedestrian in the area.Due to the extent of injuries, medics pronounced the male pedestrian dead at the scene.
