DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado lawmakers are sorting through controversial legislation as they race toward the end of the session. In the Senate Health and Human Services committee Wednesday afternoon, a bill that would allow cities to open so-called "overdose prevention" sites failed to pass, with lawmakers voting 6-3 to postpone the bill indefinitely. The bill would have allowed cities and towns to create overdose prevention centers, or supervised use sites where drugs could be tested for fentanyl and people could get counseling and connect to treatment. Supporters of the bill were working on the measure to garner enough support to get it out of committee, but those efforts were not enough to get it through.Lawmakers voted against the measure within the first five minutes of the committee ...Law enforcement officers join Special Olympics athletes at Torch Run in Pompano Beach

ATLANTA (AP) — Vaughn Grissom didn’t have the chance to open the season in Atlanta as he hoped. Now that he’s back in the majors, the shortstop is proving he can fit in the Braves’ productive lineup.Grissom had two hits, including a single to drive in the go-ahead run in Atlanta’s four-run eighth inning, and the Braves rallied to overcome a strong start by Miami’s Sandy Alcantara and beat the Marlins 6-4 on Wednesday night.Dylan Floro (1-1) blew a 4-2 lead in the eighth, which began with Matt Olson’s seventh homer. Grissom’s single to right field drove in Eddie Rosario, who tripled, for a 5-4 lead. Marcell Ozuna’s grounder was fielded by Floro in front of the mound, but Floro’s wild throw past catcher Jacob Stallings for an error allowed Ozzie Albies to score.“You see it all forming in front of you and you see it all about to happen,” said Grissom of his key at-bat. “I just had to have a good plan and try to execute and put th...Air Force suspends leadership for unit of suspected Pentagon document leaker

(CNN) — The Air Force suspended two leaders of suspected classified document leaker Jack Teixeira‘s unit, it said in a statement Wednesday, one week after the unit stopped performing its intelligence mission amid an investigation into the leaks. The commander of the 102nd Intelligence Support Squadron, part of the Massachusetts Air National Guard in which the 21-year-old Teixeira served, was suspended from his leadership position, as was the detachment commander overseeing administrative support, the Air Force said. The two officers have also lost their access to classified systems and information.Teixeira faces charges under the Espionage Act after allegedly posting classified intelligence — including sensitive information on the war in Ukraine — to the social media platform Discord in a series of leaks that revealed the scope of US intelligence gathering on both its allies and adversaries. Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira searched the internet for some of the nation’s worst mass shootings, a new 50-page motion states. Those searches, federal prosecutors say, included the terms: “Ruby Ridge,” “Las Vegas shooting,” “Mandalay Bay shooting,” “Buffalo tops shooting,” and “Uvalde.”He used his government computer, the feds add, to look up those mass casualty tragedies. The motion to keep Teixeira locked up is packed with concerns prosecutors have about the guns he owns, alleged betrayal of documents he vowed to protect and hate-filled comments he made to consider setting him free.“No conditions of release will reasonably assure the Defendant’s appearance, the safety of any person or the community, or the integrity of this proceeding,” U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Rachael Rollins and her team state.GALLERY: Bruins fall in OT

The Matthew Tkachuk trade keeps getting better and better with each night. His overtime goal in Wednesday’s 4-3 win against Boston in Game 5 didn’t just keep the Florida Panthers season going. It established him even more these playoffs as the face of this franchise moving forward. He’s not only a scorer but an edgy physical presence that has caught Boston’s full attention this series. On a team that doesn’t play as cute as last season but still doesn’t have enough grit, Tkachuk brings the sandpaper personality you hope rubs off on others. He has three goals and three assists this series to lead the team. He also leads in being an instigator against Boston. You know how the Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill was a star who played beyond hopes? Tkachuk is the same idea for the Panthers as they go for the big surprise against Boston.“We were supposed to get swept in this series, right?” he said after his game-winner sent this series bac...Despite OT loss, Patrice Bergeron happy to be back in the playoffs

The Panthers fought off elimination and forced a Game 6 with a 4-3 overtime victory.“It was great to be out there of course, there is nothing like playoff hockey,” said Bergeron. “To be able to contribute on the ice is satisfying and it was awesome to get back.”The Bruins’ captain suffered an undisclosed upper body injury in the season finale at Montreal and missed the first four games against the Panthers.Bergeron skated a full contact practice on Tuesday and was cleared to compete in his 168th playoff game with Boston, second most in team history. CLEVELAND — Julius Randle is hurt again. The Knicks All-Star sprained his left ankle in the second quarter of Wednesday’s Game 5 against the Cavaliers, laying on the court in pain as trainers, teammates and even coach Tom Thibodeau gravitated toward Randle with concern.Randle turned the ankle after contesting a shot and landing awkwardly on Cavs guard Caris LeVert with 1:17 remaining in the second quarter. He sprained that same ankle on March 29 and missed the final five games of the regular season. The two-time All-Star didn’t return to the game. Before the injury, Randle was having a rejuvenated performance with 13 points and six assists in 16 minutes. Three nights prior, the 28-year-old struggled in Game 4 — which included his shaky effort on defense — and was benched for the entire fourth quarter.Thibodeau was hopeful that two days off between games would provide Randle a needed refresher.
