MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins veteran left tackle Terron Armstead will open training camp on the physically unable to perform list along with second-year tight end Tanner Conner and offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn. The Dolphins announced the news Tuesday on the day veterans reported for training camp. Armstead, Conner and Wynn will be sidelined when the team holds its first full practice of camp on Wednesday. Armstead did not participate in organized team activities or mandatory minicamp after playing through several injuries in 2022, including pectoral, knee and hip injuries and a toe injury suffered in the season opener. Armstead previously said that he was advised to undergo season-ending surgery on his toe but opted against it to finish the season.“Against advisement, we locked in and suited up,” Armstead said in January. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel declined to say whether Armstead had foot surgery during the offseason when asked about it in May, but added that he has “...Northwestern players opt to forgo Big Ten media days in wake of school’s hazing scandals

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern will not have any players at the Big Ten’s annual media days this week after the three who were scheduled to attend opted Tuesday to back out because of hazing scandals that have engulfed the school.Linebacker Bryce Gallagher, defensive back Rod Heard II and receiver Bryce Kirtz said in a statement they made the “very difficult” decision after consulting with interim coach David Braun, their parents and teammates.“Given the recent events involving the Northwestern football program, we did not want our participation to be dominated by the hazing issue and steal the focus away from football and the upcoming season,” they said. Each school usually sends three players and the head coach to the two-day event to field questions about the upcoming season from reporters. Gallagher, Heard and Kirtz were to be available on Wednesday. Braun is still scheduled to address the media.“The decision from our players to forgo Big Ten Media Day was entirely thei...Aaron Judge is in Tampa playing simulated games. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Brent Key grew accustomed to the days as an assistant coach with Georgia Tech players popping into his office, plopping down on the couch and venting a bit.Now that he’s the Yellow Jackets head coach? Not so much.“All of a sudden, I get named head coach and it’s like my door’s locked,” Key quipped. “It’s like, ‘We ain’t coming in there.’”Consider it one of the changes for Key and Louisville’s Jeff Brohm as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s two new football coaches. They’re back at their alma maters, eager to provide a spark to middling programs now competing in a division-less league. The hope is the familiarity that comes with being an alum — or in Key’s case, interim coach through much of last season — might help get things moving quickly.“In today’s age of college athletics, it’s about winning now,” Brohm said Tuesday at the league’s “ACC Kickoff” preseason media days.Their arrivals ...Royals owner pens letter to fans in hopes of being more transparent about stadium plans
