The fourth person to die in a vehicle crash over a three-week period on a Contra Costa County highway known for its numerous fatalities has been identified by authorities as an Antioch resident.Nykruma Haynes, 48, slammed into the rear of a car while riding his motorcycle east on Highway 4 in Pittsburg on Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol said. The wreck happened about 11:15 p.m., near the Railroad Avenue exit. Haynes died at the scene.The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office released his identity Tuesday.The wreck was the highway’s third fatal crash since May 9, when a two-car crash killed one person and fatally injured another. (BCN) -- San Jose police are on the scene of a shooting early Tuesday that injured two people and has closed at least one lane of northbound Highway 87 near Willow Street, according to a 4:52 a.m. tweet from police. Thousands of people drawn to sideshow in Alameda One man and one woman were injured in the shooting. Police confirmed to KRON4 that the man has been pronounced dead, and the shooting occurred at an encampment. No further information was immediately available. (KRON) -- The number of unhoused people counted across Santa Clara County and the City of San Jose dropped slightly compared to last year, according to preliminary results of a 2023 Point-in-Time homeless census released Tuesday.The data shows the overall number of homeless people counted this year decreased slightly, dropping 1.2% in Santa Clara County and 4.7% within San Jose city limits.The 2023 PIT Count provided insights into trends among key sub-populations, including families. There was a 36.5% increase in the number of homeless families counted across the county, 80% of whom were completely sheltered, the census found.The Point-in-Time Count is a census of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night. (BCN) -- A 21-year-old Concord man has been identified as the victim in a fatal collision involving four vehicles early Thursday morning on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau and the California Highway Patrol. Juan Moreno Alonso's Ford Mustang first rear-ended a Ford F-350 pickup truck around 3:30 a.m. in the far-left lane on eastbound Highway 580 at First Street.
