U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement flouted guidance from the Biden administration to narrow its immigration arrests and prioritize deportation for migrants that pose threats to border security, public safety, and national security. Shortly after President Joe Biden took office, his administration ordered ICE to prioritize action against people who posed security risks. A new report from the American Immigration Council, a nonprofit advocacy group, found that about a third of ICE arrests between February and November 2021, in Biden’s first year in office, involved people who were not considered risks to security or public safety. Half of ICE requests for local authorities to hold a migrant — called “detainers” — during the same period were carried out against people who were not considered security risks. “At the end of the day, ICE was not following its own rules.”“ICE was going outside of these priorities,” said Raul Pinto, a senior staff attorney at the American Im...Big 12 Notebook: Kansas State defending champ while West Virginia picked at bottom

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — While TCU went to the national championship game last season, Kansas State is the defending Big 12 champion. “A big win that probably gave us a little bit of cache as far as what we’re doing is the right way, and our kids believe that what we are doing is the right way,” coach Chris Klieman said Thursday during Big 12 media days at AT&T Stadium, where seven months earlier the Wildcats beat TCU in the Big 12 title game. TCU had the Big 12’s first undefeated regular season since 2009 before that overtime loss to the Wildcats. The Horned Frogs still got in the four-time College Football Playoff, beating Michigan in the semifinal game before losing to Georgia.Kansas State is going into its fifth season under Klieman after his championship-filled time at FCS power North Dakota State. “It’s a new year, and we’ve been talking about that since we got back in mid-January, that you need to stay humble. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Justice Brett Kavanaugh pointed to the mixed U.S. Supreme Court decisions this term as he sought Thursday to dispel notions that it is partisan, even after conservatives brought about the end of affirmative action in college admissions and struck down President Joe Biden’s student loan debt relief program.“The court is an institution of law. It’s an institution of law not of politics, not of partisanship,” Kavanaugh said at a judicial conference in Minnesota, in the first public remarks by a justice since the court recessed for the summer late last month. The Supreme Court has been reshaped by the three justices nominated by President Donald Trump, including Kavanaugh. Although Kavanaugh sided with the conservative majorities in the affirmative action and student loan rulings, as well as last summer’s ruling overturning the nationwide right to abortion, he was also part of the mixed conservative and liberal majorities this term that backed...Police identify Md. man killed in shooting on Howard University campus, seek help locating suspect’s vehicle

Michael Soter.TikTok has brought up a number of data and privacy concerns in recent months due to its being owned by a Chinese-based company. Soter said he believes it’s simply common sense for Massachuesetts to follow suit. “If you have your personal device and you want to use TikTok, that’s up to you,” he said. “This is about the government devices.”Cyber security ex...Red Sox 2024 schedule: Opening Day in Seattle, Xander Bogaerts returns to Fenway, 2004 World Series turns 20
