AUSTIN (KXAN) - You have never seen the dodo bird in your lifetime. Driven to extinction by humans on the island of Mauritius in 1692, the species has become a thing of legend. But it could soon be brought back to life."What's so great about the dodo is it has become an iconic flag or face of extinction really," said Forrest Galante, a scientist who serves as a conservation advisor to Colossal Biosciences. The company, which has offices in Austin, plans to "de-extinct" the species alongside some other well known extinct species, the woolly mammoth and Tasmanian tiger. Scientists plan to ‘de-extinct’ Tasmanian tiger eradicated a century ago "Those are all incredibly important species for the ecosystem. But they're also splashy, big topical ones," Galante said about the choice to bring these species back. According to the company, all three will be de-extinct within the next decade.Should we bring back extinct animals?Brining back extinct animals, Galante said, isn't just because we ...Two Texas zoos named among the best in the country

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - In honor of National Cheese Day on June 4, NEWS10’s Cassie Hudson and Meteorologist Jill Szwed teamed up with an old friend to learn how to build a cheese board for summer. Amsterdam resident Brie Iannotti is the owner of The CharcuteBrie, a small business that creates custom cheese boards that appeal to both the eyes and taste buds. Charcuterie 101: Learning from a cheese board expert In 2021, the duo first met Iannotti when they got a "Charcuterie 101" lesson. When beginning a board, she likes to start with 3 different types of cheeses and 3 different types of meat. As you become more experienced she says, you can start to include more varieties of cheese beyond 3 types. Fruit, veggies, olives or pickles, crackers and nut mix are good additions to follow. She likes to end a board with a sweet treat sprinkled throughout. Denver voters are turning in their runoff ballots at a rate that exceeds every mayoral election in the city since at least 2011.In an election that will name either Kelly Brough or Mike Johnston Denver’s first new mayor in a dozen years and decide the direction of the next City Council with three seats still up for grabs, officials are being careful not to read too much into what those strong early returns might signal. The priority on Tuesday night will be making sure all ballots turned in on Election Day are scanned as quickly as possible to let voters know they have been received, Denver Elections Division spokeswoman Lucille Wenegieme said. She expects counting itself to continue into Wednesday.“We’re ahead of the last few elections so the turnout is looking great right now,” Wenegieme said Friday. “But we won’t know for sure if we’re going to see another spike in volume or if we’re going to land middle of the road, but we’re getting them earlier, wh...Denver’s best wine-and-bruschetta happy hour starts at 8 p.m. | Opinion
