"He missed her first steps and, you know, when I was praying and thinking about this, I just was like, 'Man, I just hope that he can be here to walk her these steps out onto the field,'" his wife Heather Jarvis told Nexstar's KFOR. "And so something happened and it came through." Here’s how a government shutdown would affect the military It had been 10 months since Jarvis and his family were all tog...Lane closures on I-35 at Williams Drive begin Sunday

A man accused of killing two small girls while driving a stolen truck received no leniency Friday from a Contra Costa County judge, who had been tasked with reconsidering his sentence after an appellate court tossed one of the man’s five convictions.Noe Saucedo, 29, saw his potential prison term effectively reduced by only a few years after Judge Rebecca Hardie imposed the stiffest possible remaining sentence against him during an emotional and tear-filled hearing inside a Pittsburg courthouse.Calling the case “profoundly disturbing and sad,” Hardie said she saw few, if any, mitigating factors suggesting Saucedo should walk free anytime soon. She also expressed regret that that she couldn’t do more to help ease the enduring pain felt by the girls’ parents.“These little girls will never go to school, have a wedding, find love — and that’s not going to change today,” Hardie said.During the hearing, the girls’ father, Jesus Ca...Got the shutdown blues? BORDEAUX, France (AP) — Fiji just avoided the kind of mega shock it is more used to dishing out at the Rugby World Cup.The Flying Fijians were constrained by a fully committed Georgia effort for 50 minutes before coming back from 9-0 down to win 17-12 in their Pool C game on Saturday. The fighting victory put Fiji on the cusp of making the quarterfinals for the first time since 2007, but not quite there yet and the deal will have to be sealed in a final pool game against another underdog in Portugal.Captain Waisea Nayacalevu began the Fijian fightback with a 51st-minute try deftly finished with inches to spare in the left corner as he dotted down off his feet and almost behind his back before he was tackled into touch. Replacement Vinaya Habosi finally subdued the Georgians when he ran onto an offload from tireless flanker Levani Botia with 12 minutes to go to make it 17-9.Georgia still had enough in the tank to kick a very late penalty and chase what would have been a scintillating ...Latest news
