Gavin Newsom won't give a State of the State address this year, shunning the teleprompter that has frustrated him because of his dyslexia in favor of a statewide tour this month, in which he can highlight his major policy goals in a more informal setting.It's a break from tradition for Newsom, a Democrat and potentially a future presidential candidate who has attempted many times to reinvent the speech for modern audiences. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Several dogs and cats were rescued from a residential structure fire in San Francisco's Sunset District on Tuesday morning, according to a tweet from the San Francisco Fire Department. Earlier, SFFD had tweeted about an active 1-alarm fire on the 2100 block of 42nd, a location just a few blocks from the beach that also borders the Parkside neighborhood. No one was injured, and one person was displaced, SFFD said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (The Hill) -- Two of the Americans who were kidnapped at gunpoint just over the Mexican border on Friday have been found dead, while two others were found alive with one wounded, a Mexican state governor said Tuesday.Tamaulipas Gov. STOCKTON, Calif. (BCN) -- Two separate shootings and another act of violence left four people dead over the weekend in Stockton, police said. A man was found dead Sunday with head injuries at Mormon Slough near Airport Way, police said. Police said homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the man's death. OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) -- An Oakland resident died Saturday morning and police are investigating the death as a crime, police said Monday. The slaying occurred just before 8 a.m. in the 200 block of Vernon Street near Whole Foods Market in the Adams Point neighborhood. Runaway Alameda County boy missing since Wednesday Officers responded to a disturbance and when they arrived, they found the resident with multiple cuts, according to police. The victim died at the scene, police said. A fire also occurred where the resident died. Fire officials said Monday that crews responded to a structure fire and the fire was out when they got there.
