Child killed after falling tree crashes into Jennings home JENNINGS, Mo. – A young boy died over the weekend after being struck by a falling tree.According to Officer Adrian Washington, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Hamilton Avenue.Police received a call for reported storm damage and an unconscious child. Teenager shot and wounded inside home in Long Beach, police investigating  Police are investigating what led up to a 14-year-old being shot and wounded in Long Beach early Sunday morning. According to the Long Beach Police Department, a call came in regarding a hit shooting in the 1500 block of West Burnett Street around 2:15 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicated that an unknown suspect fired shots outside of a residence, one of which went through a window frame and struck the 14-year-old boy while he was inside his home. He was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the lower body. The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived, and no description has been released. A motive for the shooting is yet to be determined. The Long Beach Police Department is handling the investigation.

Costume-clad fans hit L.A. Convention Center for Anime Expo Thousands of fans, many of them dressed in their favorite character costumes, hit the Los Angeles Convention Center for the Anime Expo, which was completely sold out on Sunday.  The annual celebration of Japanese pop culture, which is typically held the first weekend of July, includes more than 800 hours of programs and panels.  Fans told KTLA that part of the fun is just being around the energy of others who also love anime.  “I really like anime not only just because I am a graphic design major, but I do also really like the community that anime has brought,” one attendee told KTLA.  An attendee at the L.A. 2 people were killed and 28 wounded in a mass shooting at a Baltimore block party (CNN) — An 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were killed and 28 others injured in a mass shooting at a Baltimore block party, officials said.All 30 of the victims had gunshot wounds, Baltimore Police Acting Commissioner Richard Worley said in a Sunday afternoon news conference. Their ages range between 13 and 32 years old, Worley added.The two people killed were identified by Baltimore police as 18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzales and 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi.Of those injured, 15 were younger than 18 years old, according to Sunday night news release from police. Three highway deaths in Contra Costa County during July 4 weekend (KRON) -- Three people are dead after two separate highway collisions despite this weekend being one of California Highway Patrol's maximum enforcement periods. Police said one person was killed early Sunday morning on Highway 242 in Concord. Two people were traveling in the southbound lanes in a Nissan Sentra when they hit a guardrail at Concord Avenue. Denver summer crime on the rise DENVER (KDVR) -- Police are investigating three overnight shootings in downtown Denver on Saturday that sent several people to the hospital. Data from the Denver Police Department (DPD) shows violent crime so far this year is already higher than in years past. This graph shows the monthly number of robberies, aggravated assaults and murders from 2018 to 2023.
