NEW DELHI (AP) — President Joe Biden goes Sunday to a Vietnam that’s looking to dramatically ramp up trade with the United States — a sign of how competition with China is reshaping relationships across Asia. The president has made it a point of pride that Vietnam is elevating the United States to the status of being a comprehensive strategic partner. Other countries that Vietnam has extended this designation to include China and Russia. Giving the U.S. the same status suggests that Vietnam wants to hedge its friendships as U.S. and European companies are looking for alternatives to Chinese factories.Biden said last month at a fundraiser in Salt Lake City that Vietnam doesn’t want a defense alliance with the U.S., “but they want relationships because they want China to know that they’re not alone” and can choose their own relationships. The president decided to tack a visit to Vietnam on to his trip to India for the Group of 20 summit that winds up Sunday. With China’...Saturday Night Forecast: Scattered cloud, Cool

Saturday at Allianz Field, Minnesota United seemingly spent every second of the game’s 93 minutes knocking on the New England Revolution’s door.It took one of the strangest combinations in Minnesota United history to finally unlock it.Not only did Franco Fragapane score the tying goal of a 1-1 draw, with the final kick of the match, with his much weaker right foot, but the assist came from — of all people — goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair. The keeper had run the length of the field for one final corner kick for Minnesota, as the Loons searched for an equalizing goal — and finally found it after a scramble in the New England penalty area. The ball fell to St. Clair near the Revolution penalty spot, and the keeper poked it to Fragapane, who coolly finished into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.“We’ve been working in training all week on Dayne setting Fraga up in the last minute,” deadpanned manager Adrian Heath said.MNUFC piled up 27 shots, and 15 corner kicks, in t...Glenville Town Board and the "migrant crisis"

SAN FRANCISCO — Two games into the stretch that will define their season, the Giants are taking care of business. If one tenuous win over one of the league’s bottom feeders didn’t entirely stop the bleeding from a skid that dropped them all the way back to .500, how about a second? And a convincing thumping at that, 9-1, finally giving Logan Webb some run support Saturday night in their 15th win in their past 16 meetings with the last-place Rockies (51-90), who won’t make this three-game set their first series win against an NL West foe this season. While hardly a crowning achievement, the Giants (72-70) couldn’t ask for a better start to a stretch of 10 games against sub-.500 competition. But their fate is out of their hands, and their latest win didn’t make up any ground on the D-backs (75-68), who beat the Cubs in extra innings to maintain a 2½-game lead on the third and final National League wild card. They pulled even with the Reds (73-71), with the ...Latest news
