Hundreds of layoffs coming to the Austin area this summer

Austin (KXAN) — A WARN notice alert issued this week by the Texas Workforce Commission said that more than 400 employees would be laid off from companies in Austin and Bastrop by mid-August.The alert said Accenture Austin, Neilsen and Bainbridge, LLC, and Southeast Service Corporation (Bastrop Independent School District) would collectively cut 425 workers from their ranks this summer.For Accenture, this comes after a large round of layoffs earlier in the year. This past spring, the company planned to lay off up to 549 employees in the coming months.The Ireland-based company works with large tech companies, the Austin Business Journal reported in May. These layoffs were linked to reducing roles at Facebook. CHARLESTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the results of a waste disposal case in Montgomery County. According to the DEC, Environmental Conservation Officer Willson launched an investigation into the illegal dumping of garbage onto private property in November 2022. ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis man was sentenced Thursday after taking an Alford plea in the case of a teenager's shooting death from 2019. Joseph Renick, 58, was sentenced to 10 years of prison in the Aug. 25, 2019, shooting deathof Sentonio Cox in the city’s Patch neighborhood. Renick entered an Alford plea for a reduced charge of first-degree involuntary manslaughter. The Alford plea means Alford plea he does not admit guilt, but acknowledges prosecutors have sufficient evidence to get a conviction. A Perris man was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a girl he provided marijuana to, officials said Thursday.David Stebbins, 25, was arrested Wednesday after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a call about a sexual assault in the 100 Block of Marina Dr.An investigation revealed that two juveniles were provided marijuana by Stebbins, who then allegedly sexually assaulted one of them.Stebbins was arrested and booked on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor under 14 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, officials said.His bail was set at $30,000.Latest news
