Facebook's $725M settlement is huge, but how much will you actually get?

(NEXSTAR) – Meta has agreed to pay a whopping $725 million sum to settle a class action lawsuit alleging Facebook shared its users' data without them knowing. If you've had a Facebook account anytime in the past 15 years, you're probably eligible for a piece of that huge sum (check and see here) – but don't count on a life-changing payout. "The actual figure that will be distributed to class members is going to be smaller than that. It'll be significantly smaller than that," said Scott Dodson, a distinguished professor of law at UC Law San Francisco and the director of the Center for Litigation and Courts.Assuming the judge gives final approval to the settlement in September, a few things need to happen before any money hits your bank account. Facebook privacy settlement: Who is eligible for a payment? First off, there are the legal fees. The details of the settlement cap attorneys' fees at 25% of the total settlement amount. Of course, there are myriad reasons workers might put in their notices, ranging from the mundane (like moving to a new state) to the dramatic (like having blow-up arguments with a supervisor). In the wake of the Great Resignation, quitting seems far more common than ever. That's about 4 million people—up about 3.8% from January. But are certain states across the U.S. feeling the burden more than others? To find out, Stacker used Bureau of Labor Statistics data ...

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) — Long before the likes of Rich Strike and other horse-racing legends made a name for themselves by crossing the finish line first, they needed an actual name. That's where the folks at The Jockey Club come in.The Jockey Club, based in Lexington, Kentucky, is the official registry of all thoroughbreds in the U.S. and Canada. The organization is also tasked with maintaining and enforcing the naming guidelines for racehorses — and there are plenty of guidelines to consider.“The very first thing that happens is [a name] goes through a phonetics process to make sure there’s not a similar sounding name that already is in existence,” Kristin Werner, senior council of The Jockey Club, said. This particular requirement, Werner explained, is to help avoid confusion as races play out. For example, what would happen if a race pitted “Beautiful Sea” against “Beautiful See?"“You wouldn’t actually know which one you’re talking about because the name sounds exactly the same,” W...
