QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A Lake Luzerne woman was arrested on Monday for welfare fraud. The Warren County Sheriff's Office arrested Gina Mitchell after an investigation by the county Department of Social Services.Mitchell, 36, was found to have received $8,936 in benefits for which she was not eligible. The county investigation found that she had railed to report wages on a recertification form for SNAP benefits. Mitchell was arrested on counts of 3rd-degree welfare fraud, offering a false instrument for filing, and 3rd-degree grand larceny. AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Auburn man was arrested and is accused of second-degree murder pertaining to a fatal shooting in Amsterdam on March 12, 2021. On Friday, March 12, 2021, at 1:52 a.m., Amsterdam Police received a call for a man seriously injured, who was found bleeding on the sidewalk on Hibbard Street between James Street and Reid Street. The man, identified as 37-year-old Ricardo Lopez, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center.Later that day, Lopez succumbed to his injuries, after suffering a gunshot wound to his head. HAZELWOOD, Mo. - EPA officials responded to a chemical spill Tuesday near the St. Louis Lambert Airport, one believed to be connected with the Boeing Corporation. The United States Environmental Protection Agency was notified of a release of chromium compounds from a Boeing-operated wastewater treatment plant. Air quality alert for St. Louis from Canadian wildfire smoke Officials say Boring worked with the EPA to stop the release and implement a sampling strategy from wastewater on-site. Despite “red flag” hot, dry and windy conditions that favor flames, the Spring Creek fire burning in western Colorado south of Parachute stayed roughly the same size, authorities said Wednesday morning.The most recent mapping of the fire showed that it is burning within a 2,848-acre area, based on overnight aerial mapping using infrared imagery, according to officials with the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, which on Tuesday had estimated the size of this fire at more than 3,000 acres.Flames were devouring grass, oak brush, and pinon-juniper forest, according to data from an online federal fire information site.Low humidity and robust wind favored the fire. The Hermosa Beach Police Department is looking for a man who was caught on camera throwing a firework into a crowd, injuring multiple people.The man, who appears to be between 18 and 25 years old, was near a silent disco event at Vista in Hermosa Beach at about 9:45 p.m. on June 17 when he pulled out a firework, lit it and threw it into the crowd, as shown in video shared to Instagram by the HBPD."Fragments of the firework hit multiple people" in the crowd at the restaurant and bar, located at 11 Pier Ave., police said.
