BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WSVN) — Ky Michaelson’s beer-powered motorcycle is getting around Minnesota. Michaelson, also known as “The Rocketman,” is known for his out-of-the-box thinking and unorthodox creations. But his latest invention may be his most unique yet — a beer-powered motorcycle.Instead of a traditional gas engine, Michaelson’s motorcycle is powered by a 14-gallon keg filled with beer, which is heated by a coil inside. Michaelson believes that his bike can reach speeds of up to 150 miles per hour.“I like to be really creative, do things that other people have never done in the past,” Michaelson said. “Yeah, it could be any kind of liquid. It could be Red Bull. It could be Caribou Coffee,” said Buddy, Michaelson’s son. “It could be anything. But beer. Why not?”While Michaelson hasn’t taken his beer-powered motorcycle out on the road just yet, he has already won a few local car shows with his in...

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 15:58:40 GMT

(CNN) — As the US faces a near-record number of drug shortages, cancer treatments are among the hardest hit. There is an active shortage of about two dozen chemotherapy drugs, the fifth most of any drug category, according to data from the end of March from the University of Utah Drug Information Service.“The fact that we have this many chemo drugs in shortage is really concerning,” said Michael Ganio, senior director of pharmacy practice and quality at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.Unlike some other drugs that also rank among the top five categories for shortages, such as antimicrobials, there aren’t often alternatives for chemotherapy drugs, he said. And the shortages are affecting treatment for a broad range of cancers.“One of the key predictors of how well a patient will respond to treatment is getting a full dose on the right schedule,” Ganio said. “So when we can’t give the drug because we just can’t get ...

How to watch the Turkish elections like a pro

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 15:58:40 GMT

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) are hoping to remain at the head of the table in what, according to recent polls, is expected to be the closest race in the country’s recent electoral history. After two decades in power, a win for Erdoğan would consolidate his vision of the future of the country, as well as the presidential system he ushered in.On the international stage, Erdoğan has been playing a high-wire act on topics such as the war in Ukraine and who should join NATO. But he also faces domestic concerns, such as an escalating economic crisis, soaring inflation, and criticism of the government’s handling of February’s deadly earthquakes, which devastated large swathes of the country.Meanwhile, the main opposition coalition is made up of an eclectic mix of six political parties. First and foremost, a win for them would mean a return to a parliamentary system of governance.Looming concerns include how exactly voting will take...

Dozens of homes without water after major main break in Methuen

Astronomers spot largest cosmic explosion ever witnessed

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 15:58:40 GMT

(CNN) — Astronomers have spotted the largest cosmic explosion ever witnessed, and it’s 10 times brighter than any known exploding star, or supernova. The brightness of the explosion, called AT2021lwx, has lasted for three years, while most supernovas are only bright for a few months. The event, still being detected by telescopes, occurred nearly 8 billion light-years away from Earth when the universe was about 6 billion years old. The luminosity of the explosion is also three times brighter than tidal disruption events, when stars fall into supermassive black holes. But what triggered such a long-lived, massive cosmic explosion? Astronomers said they think a supermassive black hole disrupted a vast gas or dust cloud, potentially thousands of times larger than our sun. It’s possible that the cloud was drawn off the course of its orbit and went flying into the black hole, the researchers said.As the black hole swallowed pieces of the hydrogen cloud, shock waves li...

By BARBARA ORTUTAY and MATT O’BRIEN (AP Technology Writers)Elon Musk said Thursday he has found a new CEO for Twitter, or X Corp. as it’s now called — and it’s a woman. He did not name her but said she will be starting in about six weeks. Musk, who bought Twitter last fall and has been running it since, has long insisted he is not the company’s permanent CEO. The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet Thursday that his role will transition to being Twitter’s executive chairman and chief technology officer. In mid-November, just a few weeks after buying the social media platform for $44 billion, he told a Delaware court that he does not want to be the CEO of any company. While testifying, Musk said “I expect to reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time.”More than a month later, he tweeted in December: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job.” The pledge came af...
