ST. LOUIS – Ten years after voters approved cutting the St. Louis Board of Alderman in half, a new board has been elected. In a history-making municipal election in the City of St. Louis, voters have elected a board with 14 members instead of 28. The board approved the new 14-ward map in December 2021. City voters initially passed a measure back in 2012 to cut the number of wards and aldermen in half after the 2020 census.Earlier in the day, we asked voters what they hope to see with this new condensed board."We really need new and fresh leadership in the city," said Tyrell Manning. “I feel like we've had a lot of issues the last few years, with some of our alder-people not always being honest, and like coming up with different issues and financial things, and a lot of shady things." Election results: Voters cast ballots in Missouri & Illinois City officials projected a voter turnout of 18% to 19%.We have the unofficial winners of each ward listed below:Ward 1: ...Man pleads guilty for threatening to murder superintendent of Ventura County school district

A Santa Barbara County man has pleaded guilty to making criminal threats against a local school district.Randall Graham, 45, of Goleta, appeared in Ventura County Superior Court Tuesday to enter his guilty plea. Graham was arrested by authorities in Ventura County after he left two voicemails in October 2022 in which he threatened to kill the superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, as well as other employees in the superintendent's office. How ‘swatting’ calls spread as schools face real threats The threats were made, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, because Graham was upset over undisclosed school district policies.Around the time of Graham's arrest, the school district's leadership team released a letter to parents and students in which it said no schools were ever threatened directly, but that the school district had become the target of unfounded rumors that resulted in "social media warfare and print disinformation campaigns."Ac...Kurtenbach: Mum on details and short on time, Andrew Wiggins returns to the Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO — The reasons behind Andrew Wiggins’ absence from the Warriors for the last seven weeks remain murky. The issue is that Wiggins’ immediate future with the team is just as murky.Wiggins and Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers shared the Chase Center dais before Tuesday’s game with the Thunder, and neither wanted to talk about why Wiggins has been away from the team.Warriors coach Steve Kerr was also vague about Wiggins’ family “situation.”The way the Warriors and Wiggins view it, that’s all the past. It’s ancient history. There’s no reason to look back at it.However, they are keen to move forward with Wiggins back with the team. The problem: no one knows when Wiggins will return to the court.Related ArticlesGolden State Warriors | Andrew Wiggins’ return to Warriors is imminent — but is it too late? NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville coach John Hynes took a timeout in overtime to give his young Nashville Predators options for their ensuing man advantage. These young Predators may not have been together in the NHL that long, yet they keep finding a way to keep this franchise’s thin playoff hopes alive. Cody Glass scored a power-play goal 3:30 into overtime, and the Predators rallied Tuesday night to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2. “We have so many guys normally … you have an opportunity to practice it, and it was really four new guys that hadn’t been on it,” Hynes said. “So it was just an opportunity just to kind of sit and talk about some certain plays.”Jonathan Marchessault had been called for holding Philip Tomasino to put Nashville on the power play in overtime, and the Predators needed only 37 seconds before Glass scored his 14th with his shot deflecting off the skate of Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb past Vegas goalie Jonathan Quick.“We’ll take that,” Glass ...Torkelson homers, gets 3 hits to lead Tigers over Astros 6-3

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand’s central bank surprised economists on Wednesday by imposing an aggressive half-point rate rise to bring its benchmark interest rate to 5.25%.It was the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s 11th straight rate hike as it tries to cool inflation, which is running at 7.2%, far above the bank’s target level of around 2%.It brings the key rate to its highest level since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008. New Zealand’s benchmark rate is now among the highest in the developed world, and the bank’s aggressive action stood in contrast to Australia’s central bank, which on Tuesday decided to pause its round of rate hikes and leave its benchmark rate at 3.6%.Most economists had expected the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to impose a more modest quarter-point rise after the nation’s economy contracted in the December quarter and a destructive cyclone hit in February, killing 11 people and causing billions of dollars in...Rockets prevent Nuggets from clinching West with 124-103 win
