Vermont day care provider convicted of causing infant’s death with doses of antihistamine RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — A child care provider accused of sedating an infant with an antihistamine was convicted of manslaughter, and faces up to 25 years in prison when she’s sentenced.A jury on Friday convicted of Stacey Vaillancourt of manslaughter and child cruelty in the 2019 death of Harper Rose Briar in Vaillancourt’s home in Rutland. The 6-month-old was found unresponsive while in Vaillancourt’s care, and an autopsy determined she had high concentrations of diphenhydramine, the sedating ingredient in some over-the-counter antihistamines including the brand Benadryl. The drug is not recommended for infants without a doctor’s order, and there was no such order for Harper.Vaillancourt’s defense attorney said there was evidence to prove Vaillancourt sedated the infant, but the prosecutor told jurors that no one else could have done it.Vaillancourt, who denied giving the infant anything that wasn’t provided by her parents, was released on an unsecured appe...

Are 'buy now, refinance for free later' mortgage deals too good to be true? (NEXSTAR) – Some lenders are getting creative and offering free refinancing to buyers willing to take the leap and purchase a house amid America's crushing combination of lofty home prices and high mortgage rates. The selling point? It can be summed up by the real estate slogan that seems like it was created for 2023: "marry the house, date the rate." Essentially, fall in love with your home, but remember that you can break up with your costly mortgage rate when you find a lower one in the future. 11 states have ‘high’ or ‘very high’ respiratory illness: Map shows where sickness is spreading Mortgage rates retreated some in November but are still historically high, with the average rate on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage at 7.22% as of Thursday, according to Freddie Mac. Can you get a refund for terrible in-flight Wi-Fi?

Can you get a refund for terrible in-flight Wi-Fi? (NerdWallet) - For many frequent flyers in 2023, functional Wi-Fi has become a critical in-flight amenity. Many travelers demand access to the cloud while they’re, well, in the clouds. But sometimes, the Wi-Fi is no good. It takes three tries to reload a page, or the connection cuts out right when you've found what you were looking for. That's frustrating enough for passengers on airlines like JetBlue that offer complimentary Wi-Fi, or for those who get free in-flight Wi-Fi through their airline elite status or an airline-branded credit card. But it’s most brutal for the people who pay specifically for in-flight Wi-Fi yet receive a service that hardly serves them at all.I had a faulty Wi-Fi connection on a United Airlines flight in September from San Francisco to Orlando. On U.S. domestic flights, United sells Wi-Fi service for either $8 or 800 miles for MileagePlus members and $10 for everyone else. I opted to fork over 800 miles (NerdWallet values 800 miles at $9.60) for what’s offi...

Texas needs some help for the CFP committee to even consider putting them in one of the top four spots, but there's a path if they're able to accomplish what they set out to do at the beginning of the year. No. 7 Texas looking for final Big 12 hurrah vs. No. 19 Oklahoma State for title, possible CFP berth Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said he's proud of what the team has accomplished so far — beating Alabama 34-24 in Tuscaloosa and going 11-1 this season to get a shot in the Big 12 title game — but he's not satisfied. "The fact that we have this opportunity to play for a championship, I'm happy for our players and staff becau...

Conley’s Corner: Timberwolves guard is the ultimate sportsman EDITOR’S NOTE: Mike Conley is one of the best sources of information in the NBA. Entering his 17th NBA season, the 36-year-old Timberwolves point guard has seen it all, and has the knowledge and willingness to explain what’s taken place and what’s to come with the media and, thus, the fans.
