CORINTH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A reminder of how strong the river currents can be right now with the rising water levels. Two pontoon boats swept down the Hudson River and over the dam in Corinth on Tuesday night. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The Saratoga County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of the boats floating down river, still attached to a dock. Deputies were able to contact the owner who told them a fallen tree knocked them loose.The Corinth Fire Department was called in for assistance. Unfortunately, due to the heavy currents, Chief Andy Kelley said there wasn't much they could do. He said that, at one point, the boats were swirling around in circles before ultimately going over the edge of the dam. QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Co. is celebrating 75 years of service to the greater Queensbury and Lake George region. On Saturday, July 22, the firehouse is hosting an open house to show off its facilities, and celebrate the people who keep its engines running."Come and see how your volunteer friends and neighbors have for 75 years responded thousands of times to those in need," the department wrote on Facebook. The firehouse is located at 2663 Ridge Road in the town of Queensbury, across the street from Cleverdale Road and the Cleverdale Country Store.The open house runs from noon to 4 p.m. on July 22. Festivities include a barbeque, ice cream, kids games, and demonstrations of some of the gear at the department. (NEWS10)--- New York State has strengthened a labor law that prohibits mandatory overtime for nurses.While nurses have always been vital for care, the pandemic further highlighted just how important they really are."Understandably, many of them worked lots of overtime because there was no choice. But lots of nurses started burning out. It’s a very tough profession— physically and emotionally, and we found people were leaving the nursing profession because of it,"It creates a reporting procedure for healthcare facilities to let us, the DOL, know that they are going to have to exceed their overtime requirements. With around 20,000 passengers passing through it each day, the Westlake/MacArthur Park Station is one of L.A. Metro’s busiest. It is also the most dangerous.Last February, 113 crimes were reported at this station, and, over a two-month period last summer, there was nearly one call to the police from this station every day.L.A. The Los Angeles County Fire Department has added a new specialist to its arson investigations unit, one who particularly has a nose for the job.On Wednesday, the Fire Department introduced Julia, a 1-year-old golden retriever and labrador mix to its team. Two Angelenos were arrested for their alleged involvement in a "sophisticated burglary crew" that targeted a gated community in Newbury Park, then tried to burglarize a home in Irvine.Juan Carlos Oviedo Vargas, 42, and Claritza Oviedo Vasquez, 57, both of South Los Angeles, were arrested Friday as they "appeared to case a community in the city of Irvine," the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Vargas and Vasquez had previously been identified as the burglars who struck a home in a gated community in Newbury Park in June, investigators said. The burglars had followed home the victims, who own a restaurant, and struck the home while the owners were at work, the VCSO said. The Ventura County investigation identified and tracked the pair to Irvine, where they were seen casing a neighborhood and trying to commit a residential burglary, officials said.
