WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal Reserve officials were divided earlier this month on whether to pause their interest rate hikes at their upcoming meeting in June, according to the minutes of their May 2-3 meeting released Wednesday.“Several (policymakers) noted if the economy evolved along the lines of their current outlooks, then further policy firming after this meeting may not be necessary” — Fed parlance for a pause — the minutes said. At the same time, “some” officials said that the persistence of high inflation meant that “additional (rate hikes) would likely be warranted at future meetings.”Yet in the language used in the minutes, “several” is considered to be more than “some,” suggesting that those favoring a pause may have the upper hand. HAY RIVER, N.W.T. — Officials from the town of Hay River revealed their plan to eventually reopen the Northwest Territories community Tuesday night as a wildfire continues to burn on the nearby K’atl’odeeche First Nation reserve.Around 3,500 residents from the town and reserve were forced to leave their homes on May 14. Glenn Smith, Hay River’s senior administrative officer, said getting the fire under control is a key condition for allowing people to return. He said the fire will be active throughout the summer and weather will affect its severity and the risk it poses.“We know that everyone wants to come home. McLEAN, Va. (AP) — A Florida man who police say had an AK-47 rifle in his car was arrested outside a northern Virginia preschool after he told officers he was headed to CIA headquarters, police said Wednesday.Fairfax County Police said the man was charged with possessing a firearm at a school, a felony, after his arrest on Tuesday.Police say officers were called to Dolley Madison Preschool in McLean, which is less than a mile (kilometer) from CIA headquarters, where they took the man into custody.According to the preschool, the man asked to use the bathroom around 11 a.m. Tuesday but was denied access to the building.The man was unarmed when police responded, but officers searched his vehicle and found the AK-47 as well as a handgun and extensive ammunition, police said.He was arraigned Wednesday at Fairfax County General District Court and is being held pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for July. (WPIX) – Rapper Fetty Wap was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy, officials said.The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to distribute and possess a controlled substance. Maxwell, along with his co-defendants, possessed and distributed more than 220 pounds of heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine between June 2019 and June 2020.
