By Geir Moulson and Frank Jordans | Associated PressBERLIN — An American man has been arrested in the death of a U.S. tourist and an assault on another near Neuschwanstein castle in southern Germany after he allegedly pushed the two women down a steep slope, authorities said Thursday.The incident near the popular tourist attraction happened on Wednesday afternoon near the Marienbruecke, a bridge over a gorge close to the castle that offers a famous view of Neuschwanstein.The 30-year-old man met the two female tourists, ages 21 and 22, on a hiking path and lured them onto a trail that leads to a viewpoint, police said in a statement.He then “physically attacked” the younger woman, police said. When her companion tried to intervene, he choked her and pushed her down a steep slope.The assailant then appears to have attempted to sexually assault the 21-year-old before pushing her down the slope as well. (KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol is looking for a freeway shooter who opened fire on a group of landscapers working alongside I-80 in Berkeley Wednesday. Officers with the CHP Oakland Area division were notified of the incident around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Tesla involved in ‘major injury’ vehicle collision in Santa Clara The victims, 14 employees with a landscaping company contracted by Caltrans, were working near the University Avenue off-ramp on the westbound 80 in Berkeley. A passenger in a passing white Ford Crown Victoria pointed a black handgun out the window and fired two shots at the landscapers, according to reports. The vehicle then fled the scene.The suspects in the Ford were described as Black male adults with short hair. Traffic was not impacted by the shooting. STOCKHOLM (AP) — Sweden is moving closer to another bid to host the Winter Olympics for the first time in what’s shaping up to be a race for the 2030 Games with only one obvious candidate.Following a four-month feasibility study, Swedish sports officials said Thursday there is a desire for the Nordic country to stage the Olympics in Stockholm. MIAMI (AP) — The swimming pool deck of a beachfront South Florida condominium that collapsed two years ago, killing 98 people, failed to comply with the original building codes and standards, with many areas of severe strength deficiency, federal investigators said Thursday.Investigators with the National Institute of Standards and Technology gave an update on the collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Surfside, Florida, during a regular meeting of the National Construction Safety Team Advisory Committee. The town of Surfside is located just north of Miami Beach.Besides design understrength, investigators reported signs of corrosion, misplaced reinforcement and the placement of heavier and additional plant containers on the deck than those in the original plans.
