LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - At the end of March, Bob Blais will end his 52-year run as the mayor of the village of Lake George. In that time, he's become the longest currently-serving mayor in America - and has turned the village into the tourist economy it is today. TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Kate Mullany House in Troy is making strides towards reopening. The national historic site was damaged when a car crashed into the building in 2020, interrupting long-term restoration efforts.“The damage was down there on the first floor, the car came up on Hoosick Street and ran right into the back door on the first floor and smashed it all in," P. Thomas Carroll, volunteer historian for the Kate Mullany Historic Site, said. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police in Troop G made four notable DWI arrests between March 10 and 16. One driver recorded a BAC of 0.29% and was found to have an outstanding warrant. On Saturday, March 11, State Police of Clifton Park responded to a one-car crash on State Route 146, where they discovered an unoccupied vehicle. Police were able to locate the driver, James J. Vreeland, 35, of Schenectady, at a nearby business. Vreeland was charged with Driving While Impaired With Drugs and other Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. Vreeland had a previous DWI conviction in the last ten years and did not have a valid driver's license. He refused to provide a sample to determine the drug content in his blood. He was issued tickets to the Clifton Park Town Court on March 23 and released. FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two people have been arrested after allegedly failing to pay subcontractors they hired. New York State Police said Mark Hafner ll, 37, and Megan Hafner, 37, both of Fort Edward, were arrested on March 16. After an investigation, police found that the victim hired Property Pro Builders LLC, which is owned by the Hafners, to oversee the building of a home in Fort Ann. The Hafners allegedly withdrew funds from a construction loan which was meant to pay the subcontractors but did not fully reimburse them. Because of this, police said the couple kept over $45,000. DITTMER, Mo. - Crews carefully helped a 25-year-old horse recover after a scare earlier this week in Jefferson County. Missouri Emergency Response's large rescue team helped a downed horse around 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dittmer, Missouri. Crews applied headgear, a halter and an A-frame in an attempt to lift the horse. Crews later attached two additional side stabilizers. Top story: Mishandled evidence leads to murder case dismissal After the third attempt to lift the horse, it stood up on all four hooves. Around 15 minutes after that, the horse was able to walk slowly and drink several buckets of water. PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD)– It's a growing problem that is showing no signs of slowing down. State lawmakers said fentanyl-related overdoses are spiking throughout the nation, the state, and it's trickling down to Central Illinois communities. The spiking concern, which is claiming numerous lives, is prompting legislation on the state level. Lawmakers said laced narcotics are leaving a trail of bodies throughout the country. House Republican leader Tony McCombie (Savanna) said drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental deaths among Illinoisans ages 18-49."This is not unusual, it's happening everywhere in every state we're seeing increases of fatal overdoses," Chris Schaffner, program director at JOLT Harm reduction in Peoria, said.Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said so far five people in Peoria County have died from overdoses this year. If you’ve lived in Denver for more than 20 years, then we’re sure you’ll remember March 17, 2003.It was the cold and bitter start to what would become the second biggest snowstorm ever to hit Denver.Over the course of a couple of days, a blizzard pounded Colorado dumping 3 feet of snow in Denver and more than 7 feet in the foothills, according to the National Weather Service.From March 17-19, 2003, there were building collapses and traffic was completely shut down as Colorado roads and interstates were completely shut down for days.Denver International Airport was shut down stranding 4,000 passengers, the NWS reported. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two deaths at a home outside Nederland that are believed to be related.According to a release, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 3900 block of Ridge Road at 2:11 p.m. Thursday to check on the welfare of a resident who had not been heard from in several days.When deputies arrived, they located a man dead outside of the home. Shortly after this they located another man dead in a vehicle parked near the home.Detectives are currently investigating the deaths and it is believed the two deaths are related. Based on the initial investigation, officials believe there is no danger to the public.The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as release the identification of the men.Latest news
