Both laws were passed in April and signed into law in June.Income requirements capped at 200% of rentOne big component of SB23-184 is that, with exceptions, prospective tenants won't be required to make any more than 200% of annual rent. Also, landlords will not be allowed to use information about income, except to verify that the tenant makes over 200% of annual rent. You will soon be able to buy marijuana online in Colorado, but there’s a catch A landlord also won't be able to use a credit score, lack of credit score or any adverse credit events like late payments unless they're federally required to.However, if they do, they won't be able to take any in...Surfside mayor apologizes after being accused of racism and misogyny during testy exchange with commissioner

A Surfside Commission meeting held Tuesday tackled more than just city business. The meeting comes days after the town’s mayor made controversial comments that were aimed at a commissioner. It was a testy night once again as the fallout continued from last week’s meeting. There was a clarification as well as some familiar bickering. “In my frustration I admit I made a comment which came off as offensive to some people,” Surfside Mayor Shlomo Danzinger said. “I deeply regret losing my composure and not choosing my words more carefully.”During a meeting on Thursday, Danzinger snapped at Commissioner Nelly Velasquez for interrupting. “Commissioner, please stop interrupting,” he said. After a brief pause, Danzinger said, “OK, does anybody know how to speak Spanish to tell her this? Because I said it like four times.”Velasquez argues that Danzinger was questioning her fluency.“I speak English perfectly well, as you can clearly see that,” she said. “The...American bulldog thought to be abandoned in Miami reunites with owner

There was a happy homecoming for a dog that was once thought to have been abandoned at a South Florida park. A good Samaritan spotted the animal near a busy street and dropped her off at a spot she thought was somewhat safer. The dog’s owner reacted to having his precious pet back. The heartwarming reunion came after several days of searching for the abandoned dog.The American bulldog, named Solee, had gone missing from her home over a week ago and was found by the good Samaritan.A surveillance camera caught that interaction, which a rescue group originally thought was a case of animal abandonment. “It’s disheartening to see someone do that to an animal,” Jennifer Diliz said. “It’s really sad because this dog didn’t know what was going on, she almost didn’t want to get out of the car, and you know shes seen running after the car because shes kind of like, ‘Where are my humans? They just dumped me here they just left me.'”But...Group of firefighters honored for helping deliver babies in Hialeah

A group of firefighters in Hialeah were honored for their part in a special delivery. They were recognized at city hall Tuesday for helping deliver not one, but two baby boys.A couple in Hialeah, who were expecting back in May, realized they wouldn’t reach the hospital for the baby and pulled over at a fire rescue station to ask for help.“We’re here for any problems that they have,” said Luis Fontes with Hialeah Fire Rescue. “You know we’re problem solvers, and for any future firefighters, it’s just something you got to be ready for.”The crew heard the calls for help and jumped into action to help deliver the baby.In the other case, a baby entered the world in the back of a fire rescue truck. On April 7, another crew responded to a call of a woman who had abdominal pain. She didn’t know she was pregnant until she was in the rescue truck when the paramedics realized she was in labor“We were so excited to see the baby,” ...Orioles manager Brandon Hyde ejected from game vs. Astros after play at first base

For the fourth time this season, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde didn’t make it to the end of a game.Hyde was ejected in the sixth inning Tuesday night against the Houston Astros at Camden Yards. The fifth-year manager was tossed by first base umpire Edwin Moscoso for arguing after a play at first base. After the ejection, Hyde extended the argument — throwing his cap to the ground and gesticulating while screaming at the umpires. The crowd at Camden Yards — with an announced attendance of 24,761 — gave Hyde a standing ovation as he walked off the field. It’s unclear what Hyde took issue with, but it was perhaps that Moscoso failed to signal a safe or out call on the plate at first. With two outs in the inning with the Orioles up 6-2, rookie pitcher Grayson Rodriguez got Jeremy Peña to hit a soft ground ball to shortstop. Gunnar Henderson’s throw pulled Ryan Mountcastle away from first, and Peña was safe at first. Mountcastle started running ...Yankees rally, Aaron Judge homers in 7-1 win over White Sox

A day after the Yankees repeatedly squandered scoring opportunities, a four-run fourth inning and an Aaron Judge home run fueled a win in the Windy City.Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s two-run double, Harrison Bader’s RBI single and Jake Bauers’ sacrifice fly contributed to the big rally in Tuesday night’s 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox, during which starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt turned in another solid outing.Pinch-hitter Kyle Higashioka added a two-run home run in the eighth inning and Judge slugged a 410-foot solo shot later in the frame. The home run was Judge’s second since he returned in late July from a toe injury that kept him out nearly two months. The offensive outburst came a day after the Yankees stranded 13 men and left the bases loaded twice in Monday’s 5-1 loss in Chicago. Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected from that game for arguing balls and strikes, delivering an animated tirade in which he drew a line in the dirt near home pl...Numbers drawn for giant $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot

The numbers were drawn Tuesday night for an estimated $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot that is the third-largest in U.S. history. The winning numbers announced were: 13 19 20 32 33 and the yellow ball: 14. .It usually takes lottery officials a couple hours to determine if there has been a jackpot winner. The $1.58 billion prize has been gradually building for months thanks to 31 straight drawings without a jackpot winner. The last time someone won the game’s top prize was April 18.Each drawing without a winner pushes the prize closer to the record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot that someone in California won last year. The second largest in size was in 2016, when the Powerball jackpot reached a nearly identical amount of $1.586 billion. Mega Millions jackpot winners are so rare thanks to odds of one in 302.6 million. The $1.58 billion payout would go to a winner who opts for an annuity, doled out over 30 years. But people usually prefer a lump sum option, which for Tuesday’s jackpo...Stock market today: Asia shares mostly decline after Wall Street slide on bank worries

TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares mostly fell Wednesday after worries about the U.S. banking system set off a decline on Wall Street and amid concerns closer to home about Chinese economic growth. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 lost 0.2% to 32,323.31 in morning trading. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was virtually unchanged, edging up less than 0.1% to 7,316.60. Clifford Bennett, chief economist at ACY Securities, called the export data out of China “rather alarming,” noting it was the sharpest decline in three years and reflected the situation with the global economy, not just in China. “Global demand is falling precipitously,” he said.“It is now very likely we will all be surprised by just how intense this global economic slowdown becomes. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Dozens of flights and ferry services were grounded in South Korea on Wednesday ahead of a tropical storm that has dumped rain on Japan’s southwestern islands for more than a week.Khanun’s heavy rains and winds were expected to arrive in South Korea’s southern and eastern regions Wednesday afternoon, South Korea’s weather agency said. It is expected to reach the southern resort island of Jeju hours later and then make landfall near the mainland port of Tongyeong early Thursday. The agency says Khanun could have a punishing impact as it will likely slice through the center of the country over several hours while packing winds blowing at 90 to 154 kph (56 to 97 mph) before moving to North Korea early Friday. The Korean Meteorological Administration measured Khanun at typhoon strength with maximum winds of 126 kph (78 mph) as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, as it passed through waters 360 kilometers (223 miles) southeast of Jeju while moving northward at ...Why Ohio’s Issue 1 proposal failed, and how the AP called the race

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ohio voters on Tuesday rejected a proposal that would have made it more difficult for voters to amend the state constitution, including one measure set for the November ballot that would guarantee abortion rights in the state. The Associated Press has called the race, determining that supporters of the proposal known as Issue 1 fell short in their effort to require future changes to the state constitution to win the support of 60% of voters instead of a straight majority.Votes cast against the measure, or No votes, lead Yes votes by more than 350,000, with nearly 90% of the expected vote tallied and some of the state’s largest and most Democratic-friendly regions, including Cuyahoga County, yet to report complete results.Advance votes, which are cast by mail or in-person before Election Day, broke heavily for No, about 70% to 30%. More than 700,000 votes were cast before Election Day.The No side also appeared to narrowly lead among voters who cast their ballots on E...Latest news
