Deputies say the tractor, a Kubota L4400 with a front loader, was stolen on County Highway 107 in the area of West Galway Road and Hoesville Road. Bad news for Californians hoping to enjoy a joint with their coffee: a bill that would have allowed cannabis cafés has been vetoed by Gov. Hundreds of nurses and health care workers began a five-day strike against St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood Monday. A man was fatally beaten during a fight in Compton Sunday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.The victim, a man, was found by deputies at about 8:20 p.m. in the 100 block of North Poinsettia Avenue, the department said in a news release. OAKLAND — A man trying to aid a woman being robbed in the Fruitvale district early Monday was shot by one of the suspects, authorities said.Both the man and the woman — who was struck with a gun during the robbery and suffered facial lacerations — were in stable condition, authorities said.The violence happened about 12:25 a.m. Monday in the 4100 block of Foothill Boulevard.A 35-year-old woman had just left a business in the area and was walking to her vehicle when she was confronted by two men who tried to rob her of her purse, police said.When the woman resisted, she was pistol-whipped, and the suspects were able to take her purse, authorities saidA 40-year-old man standing nearby saw what was happening and tried to intervene, authorities said.
